This is a well earned 5 star place to eat. If you want seafood I cannot recommend a better place in Hampton Roads to get it at! The she crab soup is to die for and the fish be it baked or fried is full of new tastes to be discovered! The best of Hampton Roads for many years and prides itself on maintaining its run of flavor and fun! The menu is very extensive and you will have to go many times to scratch the surface of the selection! You will not find a bad item on the menu! They claim for instance to have the best crab cakes anywhere and I have to agree that they were the best I have had in my life! Chef Christian Korczynki was our chef on the day we went and he proved to be a master over the fish! This is a bar and fish place so the decor is fresh and relaxed! The price for food is reasonable! This is a great place for a single lunch or a group/family dinner. The place can get a bit loud on game days from the bar side but nothing too bad! My wife and I look forward to many more meals at this eclectic and wonderful place in Virginia Beach!

BEWARE of "gluten free" menu labeling. Went to dinner here tonight. Actually everything was pretty good except one MAJOR issue. My wife has celiac disease. She ordered the wedge salad which was clearly labeled "GF" on the menu. The server came to our table after the salad course was over (several other people ordered salads) and told us the salad dressing on the wedge is actually NOT gluten free. Nice timing. Who knows what other problems they have with the menu??? Now my wife will be sick for the next few days on vacation. VERY disappointing. Overall it was a nice restaurant, but don't trust the menu.

We LOVE Lucky Oyster! My husband and I have been here several times and we will keep going back. They have some of the best fish tacos in town, especially the blackened tuna on blue corn shells. Delish! We went for brunch for the first time today. I had the steakhouse omelette and he had the crab cake eggs benedict. The main parts of the dish were AMAZING, but the home fries were mediocre and the toast was barely toasted and a little floppy. Doesn't really matter because the bacon was amazing and I don't go out to brunch for the TOAST! The omelette rocked!! Yes, the draft selection could use an upgrade. HEY LUCKY OYSTER PEOPLE: I have an idea! You should build relationships with the local breweries, like YVBC and Beach Brewing. The locals would LOVE that! Service has always been fair and accurate. No problems there. As long as everything stays the same or improves, this place will remain one of our regular stops.

We've been coming here for years and really enjoyed the food It has changed ownership at least once and the service was bad before and it's just as bad now. You will always wait to be seated, wait to order your drinks and wait for your order to be taken. There are two reasons we come here; first is, the happy hour food and drink specials are decent and we really like their seafood selection. Second, we have a friend that plays there occasionally and we like to go watch him and it's a pretty intimate little spot where he plays and it's fun. If you want good service look elsewhere. If you're in no hurry and don't mind waiting and want decent seafood, at decent prices, then come here for their happy hour specials. If they get their act together and improve their service they would be jam packed every night of the week and we would go there a lot more often and spend a lot more money there. Come here for the food and the company, not the service.

I'm surprised to see more than one star for this place, ugh! You're better off going to Red Lobster because the quality is sub-par, service is a hot mess. I ordered the Seafood Cobb Salad and it was laughable, the scallops were the size of dimes and the shrimp was also from a can (the tiny canned shrimp) the crab, also from a can and for $14.99, I would've rather had 1 real scallop and 2 real shrimp than the canned micro mini things they put on top of my bagged salad and called it 'seafood', this place misses the mark as far as quality over quantity. There are SO many great seafood places in this area, this one is certainly not one of them, but alas, every beach town needs a tourist trap seafood place to rob people of the hard earned money and serve canned and frozen fish products and I suppose Lucky Oyster is that place in Virginia beach

Spent the evening here last night for a school event and had wonderful food in the most friendly environment. First, the staff from hostesses to managers to servers were all very cheerful and seem to love their jobs. The food was excellent and we tried lots of dishes. My favorite, the Flounder BLT never disappoints. We ordered three apps for our table: Buffalo Chicken dip, Crab Dip and Calamari. All were fantastic! Great night.

The food was yummy and you can't beat the happy hour prices. $5 bucks for half pound of shrimp and some veggies and 60 cent wings... great deal. Also, the drinks were pretty good too! You have to sit in the bar area to get the happy hour deals. Good location, pretty close to the Farm Bureau Live venue.

Lucky's is a great atmosphere for the whole family....if you are ever close to general booth blvd stop by lucky oysters and get the big feast...this fed 7 people and we all came out with smiles in our face....no disappointments...this is a regular for our family when we camp at holiday travel...enjoy:)

Came with a group of 14 and got placed at "table one," a massive round table in the back with a lazy Susan and walls adorned l with a flat screen TV and a taxidermed white marlin and sailfish. We were tucked away behind a curtain, but even then, the noise level was muted enough that it felt like a private dining room--which it was. We came with a 1.5 year old and 3 year old and we got a high chair and the channel changed to kids' TV. While we waited, we had an order of hushpuppies--onion-y and served with butter. So good we ordered another round. Service was a bit slow, but that's because the place was packed but our server was completely on the ball. Onto the food... We began with some littlenecks. They were the first I had ever had, so it was kind of like an experience. Tasted exactly like the ocean smells, which I am assuming is a sign of freshness. The experience galvanized me to order the fried shrimp and fried oysters as a combo. The fried oysters

Service was fast and attentive. Food was okay. Seems you can get anything fried, even corn on the cob. Unfortunately the staff was unable to tell us the origin of the seafood on the menu...if you don't see how that's a problem, read here: npr.org/blogs/thesalt/20…

Very fun atmosphere and will definitely be returning. The surf and turf burger was absolutely amazing and the fries where nice and crispy as well. Service was just fine with no complaints at all. Not a lot of variety on tap but that's alright. Overall, good time.

A couple of my family members like coming here for some of their mid week specials, but I hate coming here. The food is OK, nothing to ever come back for. There always seems to be some problem with the service every time we come. I would never come back if it was up to me.

Very impressed. Thought they deserved all the Pilot awards they received. Ordered the 'create your own' platter with a crab cake and fried shrimp. Crab cake had lots of flavor and full of crab. Shrimp breading was delicate, not heavy, and delicious. Ordered the fish and chips for my daughter and was delightfully surprised to see a huge piece of fish taking over the basket opposed to frozen sticks of fish bits. Highly recommend.

Went to Lucky Oyster last night with family/friends; a total of 9 in our party. NOTE: They charge 18% gratuity for parties of 7 or more (stated on their web site). No biggie. Victoria was our server and she was EXCELLENT! Thank you Victoria for a wonderful evening. Food: I always get the steamed shrimp - which is easy to prepare - and fine with me. Others at our table ordered the fried seafood platter, special of the night - fried flounder, and salmon. Seems all were pleased with their meals. Suggestion (to all restaurants)...... would be AWESOME if you have a certain area for families with screaming/crying kids. Maybe put them all together so their "parents" can enjoy their screaming. I know this is no fault to Lucky Oyster and it's 100% the fault of the "parents" refusal to make their children mind. AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagH!

I dont see the big bru ha over this place! Yes the food is good. If people want real seafood go down to the beach and get it! I could recommend other places for much better seafood. One person mentioned fish tacos that were good. Girl I can point you out to another place where fish tacos are excellent! Of course if you want fresh seafood, yous gonna have to pay altillte more. I mean do you want a Filet O fish from McDonalds or a fish sandwhich from Rudees or Rockafellers? You see my point!!?

Your standard touristy, knickknack laden, golden fried seafood restaurant... but the food was actually pretty descent and the service was good.

  • Eric Q.

Is it a chain? It feels like a chain.... Pretty expensive and generic. I'd like to say the service made up for it but it was also less than remarkable. Not bad, just a person bring you the food from the kitchen.

  • Jim C.

Really cool looking inside and the service was good. Too bad the food wasn't up to par. The she crab soup was lacking she crab... Seriously... I didn't find any in there at all. It was way over seasoned with old bay too. The Fried oyster dinner was a bit under cooked and the batter was quite bland. I think it was Bisquick. Had to use a bunch of salt and lemon to zest it up. The oysters Rockefeller was loaded with pepper. I think it was frozen. Bacon wrapped scallops were obviously frozen too. At $25 you would expect a seafood dish to be fresh... Especially so close to the ocean. Basically nothing special here food wise. Overall disappointed.

The kids and I took my husband here for his birthday because he likes seafood and it was suggested to me as a family friendly seafood restaurant. We had a great experience. The food was good, as are the daily specials, and our server was fantastic. We will definitely be back.

So-so service but it was all okay because the food was incredible. Especially loved half off raw bar! Had muscles, clams, oysters, shrimp - practically tried everything and it was all delicious. Probably can't go wrong if you stick to seafood.

I visited Lucky Oyster for the first time today as I live just 2.5 miles from it and drive by all the time. This restaurant was participating in VB Restaurant Week, so I was expecting them to be on top of their game. I couldn't have been more disappointed. My wife and I went for brunch and we both ordered the seafood omelet, one was with mushrooms and the other without. I ordered a glass of orange juice and a glass of water with lemon on the side. The water came with the lemon floating in it and the orange juice was on ice. My wife ordered coffee, which didn't show up until 20 minutes later when I asked another server to remind our order-taker (not server). Both of our omelets showed up with mushrooms. We informed our order-taker and the whole plate when back to the kitchen and she said everything would be hot and fresh. I expected an entirely new order. When it came back, the omelet was greasy and the side orders were the same ones that went back, the only thing new on the plate was the omelet and that is a health code violation. Not once did we ever see the manager. This is really poor customer service. It was my first time there and I won't be going back.

I came here with a large group before a concert. Lucky Oyster was selected because on Tuesdays the raw bar menu is half price. When we arrived the bar was full and although there was a large open table, it was apparently reserved (since when can you reserve a table in a bar?). The raw bar special wasn't available in the restaurant section so we were stuck in the outdoor seating area and it was miserable. Extremely hot and humid. We tried the orange crush and it was good, but the waitress talked us into getting the large size on our second round and it seemed to be the same amount of vodka but in a bigger glass with more mixers--ick. Most of our group had the steamed combos and it was a good deal with the half price special. I had the southern fried shrimp with fries. Everything tasted good but not amazing. Not worth it to pay full price.

Sorry but this is not good. Went there tonight for restaurant week specials had the snapper and am home sick. Also had oyster rockerfellow for a starter. The food was cold and the snapper was tough. I have eaten here before and it was good. I am sorry this was a bad experience but I won't be back. I hope it is not food poisoning

Absolutely awesome service! The food was great and atmosphere was very fishy! By fishy I mean the entire restaurant is decorated with real fishing rods, nets, and taxidermy and the table we sat on like like we were sitting in the cockpit of a fishing boat. Told myself we are on vacation so might as well eat some fried food and ordered a fried seafood meal. It came with a great crab cake, fried flounder, oysters, large shrimp, and large scallops. The batter was nice and not greasy at all. Also the she crab soup was pretty good. I will definitely go back if I am in Virginia beach anytime soon.

The food was pretty tastey. There is only one complaint that I have with this place, the waitress was rude! I came here with my friend and she thought the same thing. I thought it was just me.

We went there for lunch time during the week and wasn't crowded at all... Since I am not a big seafood fan, I had the mini cheeseburger and it was pretty good. The service was great but it was approx $10 for lunch.

We have been here 3 times. Each time someone loved their meal while the other hated it. 90 percent of the menu is fried. The dishes lack any creativity and are inconsistent. We kept trying to like it but we won't be back.

  • Mink W.

Great food and service. You can tell they pay attention to every selection of their menu. The green beans were perfect, the cornbread soft and sweet and of course the oysters fried just right. Will definitely be a returning customer. A local gem.

Dropped in with my daughter and friend for a late lunch. We had a recommendation that this was a good place to get some seafood. The ambiance is fun and friendly, the service was outstanding and the food was really good. For appetizer, we had a plate of a dozen raw oysters. There were several types available and after consultation with the waiter, we went for the oysters from the bay waters, which are a little less salty. They were really excellent and were served up with a very nice and tasty horse radish sauce. I had a Southern fish fry basket for my lunch and it was excellent. I think there five or six largish pieces of battered fish served atop french fries. The fish and the fries were crispy and tasty, without being oily or greasy. Good basic cooking, well executed. My daughter had a bowl of lobster bisque as her lunch, and it was just awesome. Just freakin' awesome. I got taste a couple of spoonfuls, no more was shared with me. Best of all, the bank book survived the meal intact. What else could you ask for from such a good place to eat. I'll go back there, next time I visit Virginia Beach! This is not a gourmet seafood restaurant. If that is what you are looking for, then you need to go elsewhere and be prepared to spend the $$$$. Plenty of places like that in VB, so go...

This has been my second or third time here and I really don't have much to say about the place. Walking in brings you to a typical touristy waiting area. This night that we went for my father in-laws birthday was pretty lack luster. The waitress had a pretty blank robotic personality which is a little offsetting. My father in-law ordered from the raw bar, my wife ordered the usual chicken sandwich and I had the fish tacos. No one was really wowed by the food and I will have to say that my fish tacos were a little boring, the avocado ranch that came with it was pretty good though. All in all, I would be a little hard pressed to come back here again.

We went as a large group the day after Christmas. The place was busy. The food was amazing. Everyone loved what they ordered. Be sure to order the lucky marina platter as appetizer. Large selection of fresh sea food. The wait staff was friendly and pretty prompt considering how busy they were.

Charged for a fly in my pasta....my 6 year old cousin found a fly in her pasta. When we alerted the waitress, she casually apologized and offered to bring her a sundae, which she did. When it came time for the bill, they charged me for the pasta and forced to pay 18% gratuity for a party of 6. The food was forgettable but the dining experience stands out as one of the worst.

I read the reviews before I went and I saw the good and the bad. I am an optimistic person and so I decided to trust all the good reviews and go here for dinner on Friday night. We get there and it's really crowded, and that's fine because it's just 6:45PM and we have nothing else to do. They tell us there would be a 30-35 min wait and so we waited....45 min. I'm not annoyed yet, but I do take notice. So we sit down and it's pretty noisy in there, but that's to be expected on a busy Friday night. We waited about 15 min, not joking, before our waitress asked us what we'd like to drink. I thought that she must be working her butt off to take care of the 2 large tables on either side of us, but nope, she just apparently was slow...or doing something else. So then we placed our order, and I am SO glad I ordered a side salad that came out as an appetizer, because we waited over 1 hour for our food to come to the table. By this time it's closer to 9PM and I have a 10 month old baby who was SUPER tired. So THEN when the food did finally arrive, half my order was cold. WTF? When the waitress asked if everything was alright I politely told her that I was unhappy about the food being cold. To make up for it several other servers, and apparently a manager, brought me 3 more of the same side dish. Uh, I don't need 3 plates of SUPER HOT, BURN YOUR MOUTH asparagus to make up for the 1 cold plate. Anyways, they ended up comping my meal because of all the mishaps, which was cool of them. That's why they get 3 stars instead of 2. Sorry Lucky Oyster, I won't be back.

We eat here on a regular bases every couple of weeks. Normally we have enjoyed the food and service. Last Saturday they were off their mark. Party of 7 and the service was good, friendly and efficient. Verities of dishes were ordered with very different results. Oysters Rockefeller was dried out and had the smallest oysters, the size of your little finger's nail. The steamed Lucky's Marina was superb. All the shell fish was correctly cooked and what can you say when it's cooked correctly? mmmmmmmm good. Neptune's feast was average at best. Scallops and shrimp were excellent but the broiled fish only real flavor can be described as bitter. Bacon wrapped scallops were raw. Lucky I like raw sea food but still they were not cooked correctly. The Crab stuffed Shrimp and steamed crab legs were excellent. We will try again but still looking for a place that has it all.

We tried this place tonight and it was a huge improvement over the last time we ate there. I had heard that it was bought last year by some locals who have made a lot of changes for the better. When we tried it before it had a very corporate, soul-less feel about it. The food back then could be described in the worst way possible...unmemorable. But now it is an entirely different story. The wait staff is very friendly and efficient and the food is as fresh as can be. I know it is cliche to say something like "it is so fresh you can taste it" but it is true in this case. I had the Cajun Shrimp and Crawfish Linguini and my wife had the fried shrimp. You knew when you were munching your way through it that the shrimp did not come out of a bag with the word "Contessa" on it! We were very impressed and the prices were excellent. Tuesdays are $5 off pasta and steaks and the fried shrimp were only $15. They even have a superb organic New Zealand SB by the glass. The mixed drink selection looked interesting but it is designed to appeal to the ladies. Lots of what sounded like really sweet, foo-foo drinks. We stuck with the wine. The only negative (and they are minor) is that the salads have commercial bottled dressing and the croutons are definitely store bought. The lettuce and veggies were certainly fresh and crisp, though. I guess this kind of corner cutting helps keep costs down. The kid tried the Snickers pie which I couldn't even take a second bite of. VERY SWEET SWEET SWEET. I don't know how she managed to eat half of it. The wife had the bourbon bread pudding. I tried a bite (or two) and it was much more enjoyable. Much more balanced on the palate and sharing it was a great way to finish off a good meal.

DON'T EAT HERE. FOOD POISONING!! I'm not one to write unjustified reviews. Three families ate here on the the same night, one of which was at a completely different table/meal. All the members got extremely ill on the same timeline and same symptoms. It wasn't the flu, to many things line straight up to food poisoning. Save yourself a miserable experience of puking and diarrhea, DON'T EAT HERE!

This place is a typical american one from an european point of view. Very loud, lots of TV and busy waitresses. But the food was ok. Go for the daily specials otherwise this place would ruin your finances.

As the last night of our Virginia Beach trip, my friends and I went out to Lucky Oyster. Turned out that we selected a good restaurant as we left stuffed. The waitstaff was absolutely friendly and knowledgeable. The wait for a table was fairly short. The decor was interesting and eye-catching. The food was delicious. Between us, we had mahi-mahi, shrimps, hushpuppies and other appetizers. All were cooked to perfection. We left there oh-so-very-stuffed that when I said something very gross to a friend...he had to go "ralph" it all out. *bwahahaha*

I went for a late lunch here with a friend and our 3 kids. It was after the lunch rush and there were maybe 3 or 4 other tables seated. Our hostess found us a table towards the back and made sure we had enough space for ourselves and the children. Our waitress came and took our order and was very nice. And then all hell broke loose and our 2 toddlers threw a fit, as children of that age and mindset tend to do. My friend and I made every effort to calm them down and in less than 2 minutes, the chaos was reigned in and everyone was happy once again. During the screaming fit, I noticed that a woman who worked there (who I later found out was Cat, one of the managers) glared at my friend and i while we tried to placate our daughters. Now, I understand that screaming toddlers can bring on a whole host of irritable feelings, but we were doing our best to calm them down, and they were quickly calmed down and weren't much of a disturbance for long. However, with the looks we received, you would have thought World War 3 was breaking out at our table. Not only was I seriously embarrassed, but I felt so judged and like an awful parent for a normal, toddler outburst. It ended up being the formidable, Cat, who served our daughters their food (which we had ordered first) and she all but threw it at them and walked away. The adults food arrived promptly and my friend very much enjoyed her Key West Fish tacos. My Seafood Cobb salad left a lot to be desired (Paying $14.99 for a salad that promised scallops and steamed shrimp and ending up with baby salad shrimp and bay scallops is a bit of a letdown) and I wont be ordering it again, should we return. After the children finished their lunch, we were letting them play with our phones to keep them happy and quiet (as desperate parents tend to do), and one of the girls was laughing. She wasnt causing a scene or pitching a fit, but she was laughing and having a happy time--much to our relief given the earlier spat) and who other but Cat, walked over to their sound system and turned their music up to drown out the laughter. We were more than a little irritated with her behavior at that point. As a parent, I try very hard to teach my child table manners and how to conduct herself in a restaurant. However, she is two years old and subject to the wants and whims of the terrible twos. We have dined in many a restaurant in the Virginia Beach area, and in fact, all over the states, and this was most definitely not her first tantrum in a restaurant. It was, however, the first time I have ever dealt with someone like Cat... someone who made me feel like we weren't welcome at a restaurant and to be perfectly honest, I doubt we'll darken the doors of the Lucky Oyster again after today. And I'll be sure to let all my friends with children know that its not as child friendly a place as everyone thinks.

I went to Lucky Oyster 2 weeks ago for the first time and it was an awesome experience! So much that I bragged to my sister about it and convinced her to go to lunch on Friday 6 July (she posted her own review). The dessert was highly anticipated but like she wrote, very dissappointing. The first have the flavor and the visual appearance but was cold to say the least. The second came out so hot I burned the roof of my mouth and it was completely lacking the lava for a lava cake. I will give the restaurant one more try before I cross it off my list. Maybe Wednesday is the best day of the week to go not only for the food but service as well.

After an absolutely 0 star experience the first time during all you can eat steamed shrimp night on Mondays, we were offered $20 in gift certificates for another visit. We waited a couple of months before going back and giving them another shot, only because we had 20 bucks to spend. We ended up there on a Thursday, when they have the fried shrimp platter as the daily 9.99 deal. We opted for that, 12 wings and crab dip as apps. I have to say that the meal was very enjoyable. The shrimp were large and butterflied, fried to a light golden brown, and not greasy. If they were frozen, you would not have known. The portions were huge, and you get a salad and a side with the meal as well. The wings were a happy hour special, and my kids ate it up. The crab dip was served so piping hot that the edges were still bubbling. A little too cheesy for me but everyone else enjoyed them. What made the difference on this visit was the service. They were attentive, prompt on refills, and friendly. That ensured another visit for the future.

Lucky for us the Greek restaurant across the street was closed when my wife and I were looking for a place to grab lunch. Lucky for us that that any lunch rush was already over, so our service was quick and friendly. The seafood was quite good. I had flounder and fried shrimp, both of which tasted very fresh. Wife had clam strips and calamari and she had the same comment. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here.

Visited again to take some visiting family members for some local flavor. It was a Thurs nite, but was crowded; and two large parties. Good grief. As I stated in earlier review, Lucky Oyster cannot deal with large groups and maintain competent service. We were seated at 7:20 PM, placed our order at 7:30, and did not get served our meals until almost 8:30. Kids were hungry and irritable, food was delivered luke warm. I blame myself for not calling prior to my visit and asking if any large groups were booked. I'll do that next time; there are too many other local options to deal with that again!

We dined here last night and had a very enjoyable time. With a group of 13 family members we had called ahead and were pleasantly surprised to be placed in a back room just to ourselves. My wife wanted to sample the fried oysters before ordering. We were really impressed to have the waitress return with a bowl of 4 delicious oysters. The rest of the evening turned out just as well with good food and service. We had a small negative this morning upon checking our credit card bill online... It appeared the tip was figured twice. But upon calling the Lucky Oyster folks we found out this was a recurring problem they were having with the credit card vendor. So faith was restored and we were left with only yummy memories.

Great place! Our food came out really hot, which is always a plus. Our waitress was super sweet and the prices were reasonable for seafood. We really enjoyed our food except for the asparagus. It really didn't have any flavor at all. Other than that, it was a great experience. I'll be back for sure!

We love this place and especially the happy hour menu. After several visits we can not say enough good things. The staff is excellent, friendly, and accommodating. Really a great locals place. I just dislike it when they have great bands because I cannot get a seat!!

She Crab soup was outstanding. The rest of it tasted like a badly run Red Lobster. Food was greasy, service was oblivious. Salad has sad cheddar cheese from a bag as garnish, scallops with bacon were grease balls, etc. Our waiter brought out everyone's dishes except for the youngest child in our party, who sat there waiting for her food for nearly 10 minutes. No drink refills. I had the combo with Scampi (over oiled and a small portion) and a crabcake (ok, but I've had way better). Seriously over priced.

I took my son and a couple of his Navy buddies here when we came down for a visit a couple of weekends ago. Even though the restaurant was crowded, we had a short wait which seemed even shorter while my son enjoyed a to-the-death match of checkers with his brother. The server arrived promptly and got our drink orders, and I forgave them for their lack of Coke products. My sons and I each ordered the snow crab legs, which weren't at all stingy with the portion. These were definitely meaty, tasty crabs, with very little water coming out of the snapped shells. My son's friends ordered two of the house specialties - the crabmeat and butter, which is pulled crab that's been cooked in butter and served in a small ceramic pot -- and the fried oyster dinner. The crabmeat was apparently tasty, but the fried oysters, which were touted as Lucky's favorite, were not a favorite of the sailor, who declared them a bit too salty. Overall, our experience was a good one. We didn't feel rushed to leave, and the food, with the exception of the poor oysters, was enjoyed. The bill was actually slightly less than what I expected, and I'd be more than happy to visit again, the next time I'm in Virginia Beach.

Average at best. Not sure why the lot is always full. There are much better alternatives for seafood in VB.

I checked this place out after reading other positive reviews on Yelp! I have been told in the past by long time locals that Lucky Oyster wasn't very good and was overpriced. We went on a Saturday night, not overly crowded, got seated immediately, served immediately and couldn't have asked for more from a fast service aspect. I was in the mood for seafood, so I ordered their "The Outer Banks" Seafood Platter. It was fantastic--a little pricey perhaps, but the seafood tasted fresh, was perfectly prepared and there was a nice variety and as much as I could possibly eat without being miserable. I would definitely recommend Lucky Oyster...if you're a local you may want to give this place a second chance if you had a bad experience in the past. I've lived in VB for 5+ years, and I will say this was the best quality seafood I've had here!

After a disappointing dinner here a year ago, we were in the mood for seafood so we thought we'd give Lucky Oyster another try. Unfortunately the broth of the oyster stew, indicated as a signature dish, was like warm milk with some celery and bacon bits thrown in. The shrimp and scallop pasta was oily and swamped with sun-dried tomato, and the Cajun shrimp and crawfish linguine tasted bland and canned. The dozen raw oysters were very thin, a couple of them even torn as if they had been cut in half. Even the kids, who are extremely easy to please, rated the macaroni "ugh." As it happened, the computer system of my Visa card provider US Bank had gone down that evening and thus our card was rejected. OK, that's the breaks, but since we had just come from the local water park I didn't have anything but my Visa card and driver's license. I offered my license and business card to underscore that I would come back to pay -- but the manager insisted that I leave my wife and children at the restaurant while I went home for some cash. So my wife and kids (10 and younger) waited for 45 minutes while I went on the money run. Needless to say I was peeved, and my wife was livid that the manager insisted on keeping the children as virtual hostages literally past their bedtimes. Bad confluence of events, but I think the manager acted in the extreme. We will never be returning.

Update; food still the best around; but they need to step us the service. Wait's have been getting a little long.

I have now been to the Lucky Oyster roughly 10 times over the past few years and I have never been disappointed with the food or service. Last night was no exception. Our food was delicious and the service was perfect! The Lucky Oyster is also a great place to have a party. We rented out the back room for my rehearsal dinner and it couldn't have gone any better. The party coordinator is very accommodating and super friendly. The private space is great because it has a variety of seating and there is a huge circular table with a gigantic Lazy Susan. Just a couple of minor negatives about the Lucky Oyster are that they will not take reservations after 6:30pm any day of the week. Also, your entire party has to be present before you can be seated. Another bummer is the parking. It is very hard to find an empty parking spot in the lot. Hoping that someday LO finds a way to expand. Definitely will continue to be a return customer.

Average experience. Think TGI Fridays for seafood. Raw oysters were good. My wife got pasta with scallops and she had to hunt for 4 small scallops in it. My tuna was good but nothing exceptional. Had a cup of coffee after dinner and it was horrible. We don't plan on going back. Much better seafood places in Virginia Beach. P.s. - We walked across the parking lot to Whiskey Kitchen for dessert and enjoyed that experience much more.

Popped in at lunch time, mostly because they're on my credit card rewards program (Yay! United miles). A bit of queue for the hostess so I bypassed the line and took a seat at the bar. Sports channels going with talking heads. I was immediately asked for my drink order and by the time she had that ready, I ordered the grouper tacos. About five minutes later, two medium sized tacos arrived with a small bowl of (spicy!) rice and beans. The tacos had a good flavor with enough salsa and cabbage on there and a small pot of avocado cream to spread on. Maybe more fish would have helped. Overall, an A-OK lunch. Not awesome but not bad. A nice place.

This place has been around for quite a while. I've also been here quite a few times, both for brunch and for dinner. When you come in, this place definitely has a beach theme. The tables have different depth graphs of the local waters, as well as some that are outside the area. The theme is great and fits with it being here in Virginia Beach. On my latest visit, I came in on Thursday, as they have a fried shrimp dinner special for $10.99. The hush puppies are really good here too. I like the fact that they don't come out greasy. For the main course, the shrimp were great and cooked perfectly. I had their macaroni and cheese as the side, which is something everyone should try if they get the chance. On the service side, service was on point and didn't have any issues. If you're along General Booth Blvd. and looking for a seafood place, look no further than here.

All I can say is wow! We had a party of 18 in which we made reservations. We all had our food within 30 minutes and the food was fantastic. Service was even better. Megan our waitress did an amazing job and handled our very demanding table by herself and we were left not wanting or needing anything, drinks were filled as soon as they emptied. The food was all fresh and was amazing. I truly cannot type everything bc I cannot do it justice. 6 stars for sure

This place is your standard seafood joint. Loud environment, typical variety of seafood dishes. I ordered "Neptune's Feast". It had a variety of crab stuffed shrimp, scallops, flounder and Oysters Rockefeller. The shrimp was juicy, the flounder was dry as well as the Oysters Rockefeller. Hubs ordered the Crab Stuffed Flounder. The crab stuffing was tasty but the flounder was on the dry side too. Service was just okay. Nothing to rave about. Tough to get refills on our ice tea and seemed like the waitress was more concerned chatting w/ the staff. Knocked one star off for dry food, one star off for not getting drink refills and one star off for a pre-occupied waitress. Would I return, probably not. There are better places to get a great seafood dinner with excellent service in VB.

Excellent food and drinks, and outstanding waitstaff! With a party of roughly 50 people, our servers managed to stay spot on with taking food and drink orders. Everyones food came out in a timely manner too and was delicious. We all enjoyed! Would definitely return for Orange crushes too! The only con if I can think of one, is that there were no vegetarian options. Unless you get a salad and a side dish, there are really no meal options. Adding a veggie burger to their menu would make this place perfect.

I received an apology letter from management and a gift card so I deceived to give this place another try. Why not the food would be free? This time the service was much better and the waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was very good. The only issue I have is their portion size isn't enough. This place is pretty expensive for the amount of food they give you.

My family and I have been here twice now. The food is good and the staff friendly. I got the fried flounder dinner and enjoyed it both times. My only issue is the lighting is a bit dim, but it's really a great place to eat. My second visit was with a party of 20 and the waitress handle the orders smoothly.

This was my FIRST & LAST time going to this "restaurant". My husband has been wanting to try out their Sunday Brunch. The service was very slow & not attentive at all. We both ordered the Seafood Omelet. Only difference is I ordered without the mushrooms. Both meals came with mushroom. Didn't know this until I was about to take a bite out of mine. Waited for a while to get the server's attention and she took it back to her manager. When food came back, they re-cooked my omelet and brought back the sides with the half eaten toast I had! Now the sides & half eaten toast are now cold. The omelet was hot but VERY GREASY!!! I tried to take a bite but couldn't even swallow it coz it was soaked in grease. I wouldn't serve it to my pet. I also asked for coffee which didn't arrive until after our meal was served. They comped my meal which I never did eat because it is inedible. I was surprised that they would just bring back the same sides with "newly cooked" main dish. Isn't that a health food code violation? Thru this whole thing, NO manager ever stopped by our table to apologize for the service and the food.

Today was my first time eating here and I must say the only thing that impressed me was the She Crap Soup. One word: delicious. It was the best I've had in a while. The service was just okay, unfortunately. Our waitress took her time taking our orders and when I'm hungry I need food or else I get hangry (hungry and angry). It took a while for her to take our orders after getting our drink orders and some food took a while to come out. The restaurant itself was nice. I loved the decor but the food is pretty pricey depending on what you order. They did have a beer tasting for $7 I believe with your choice of 4 beers. I may have to come back to try that because I saw some brewing companies that I like.

Great food in an unpretentious atmosphere. Nice selection of VA craft beers, fast and friendly service, & beachy ambiance without the boardwalk crowds... Would definitely come back again. Both the fish an chips and the fried oysters are fantastic. Hats off...

My first time I ordered the lunch combo with oysters and calamari to-go and it was ok. Today I ordered the same thing but dined in and it was soooo good! The oysters and calamari were fried just right. I ordered their five cheese Mac and cheese and that was amazing! Glad I gave this place a second chance.

The she crab soup is delicious. They're house sauce goes well with everything and their fried butterfly shrimp is SOoo good! The prices are. Little steep but I guess that's typical of a seafood joint.

I really liked this place, now not so much. The majority of the menu is fried & limited. Last time we were here, we waited an hour to be seated. Only after I complained about the wait to the hostess & manager did they realize our pager was broken. Decided to give this place a second chance. Well, no more! The wait staff is friendly, but I go to restaurants for the food. The food here is awful & overpriced for what you get. I do not mind spending money on quality, but it will not be here. There are much better places in V.B.

1st review where I am not sure how I feel about a place, the food was cool and the decor was nice, but thee was nothing special about the place. The service was just okay and barely that no water refill the food was good an oyster basket and a shrimp basket but the prices were high about 12 bucks each for 6 shrimp and 7 oysters fries were fries nothing great. That said they do have a large menu and a nice selection of crushes and craft beers so will give them another shot.

Stopped on a Tuesday night to satisfy a seafood craving. Not disappointed. Started with the Crab soup. My daughter and I loved it, my wife did not enjoy the sherry after taste. Service was fast and the restaurant has a great look and feel to it. We enjoyed steaks and the grouper special. Good food done to expectations. I would return if I were local.

Finally! This is the place for soft shell crabs. It was great knowing that my husband order of soft shell crabs was the best from all the others places we have gone to. He would alway say that he would like to find a place who can make them right. They know how to make them here. My food and his was the best! Thank you Lucky Oyster Cooks.

Lucky's is always a must when we travel to Va Beach. Great atmosphere. Very accommodating for families or large parties. Blackened tuna bites are a popular favorite. Good rawbar selection as well. Mondays are military appreciation night Wednesday is half off bottles of wine

Wedding rehearsal dinner 7/31/14 Sat in the back room, not a huge seafood fan so ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, woo, was that good, and hot. Since I was from out of town I wanted to try some VA beer, they had plenty to select from; fantastic. Service was great Overall a great experience, would eat here again no doubt

We were a party of 6 and we argued about what rating to give. I was bound and determined to give them 1 star for what I thought was poor service. No refills, no napkins. Fries with no ketchup because the bottle on the table was empty. The worst insult was waiting for the check over 20 minutes amidst piles of dirty dishes, used napkins, and smelly greasy crab carcasses. We wanted dessert but by the time our waitress came we did not want to wait another 20 minutes. She dropped the check, didn't even think about clearing our table and then came and got her money and tip!!! The food was good, not exceptionally good but "good". I can't help but wonder if our service was better, our experience would have been improved and I may have enjoyed the Lucky Oyster House a bit more. The waitress was nice, just not efficient. And plenty of servers walked by our filthy table. If you were wondering they were NOT busy. Obviously no one was managing the restaurant. Hellllllooooooo. If you want to stay in business these are the little things that matter! Next time, we will spend our $200 elsewhere.

My wife and I live nearby and frequent Lucky Oyster for a weekend "treat" of seafood and cold adult beverages. Our favorites are the Blackened Tuna Bites, Southern Fried Shrimp, Hot Crab Dip, and hushpuppies. We usually pick two appetizers and a basket of hushpuppies and enjoy with an ice cold beer (him) and glass of wine (her). The food always arrives hot and cooked perfectly...the tuna bites medium, shrimp big and lightly battered/fried, crab dip very hot with warm pre-sliced pretzel mini-loaves. Hush puppies are a bargain. And all of the fried food tastes like it is fried in fresh oil (a pet peeve of mine). All of the sauces pair perfectly with their respective appetizer. The wait staff has always been friendly and attentive without fail. Like I said, we live close by (sometimes ride our bikes up; they have a bike rack), and for a place that on first glance looks touristy, there is big dose of "local" at the Lucky Oyster, and we're happy to be part of it.

I was such a fan of Lucky Oyster, the love is gone. I strayed from my usual scallops and ordered a platter featuring fish, fried oysters, shrimp, scallops and crab cake. The only thing that had flavor was the fried oysters. It wasn't a good flavor, but I've never been a fan of fried oysters, so maybe it was just me. The crab cake was tiny, over cooked and full of filler. I was hoping for some lumps of crab but found only small strands. Such a disappointment again, after so many tasty visits.

Wow... Not good. Mac and cheese you could taste the heavy flower, French dip was salty and the bread was hard. My wife's Well/Medium well burger was red, bloody, and actually cold. Our server said the drinks are the best thing to eat here. We we should have listened. :0( To Busy with stuff on the wall. Not a place I will return to.

My friend and I were staying in Sandbridge and looking for a dinner spot that offered crabs but wasn't run down. Of all the places we looked at on Yelp, Lucky Oyster was the clear choice, and I'm glad we stopped in. We arrived on a Saturday night around 6 and were seated immediately. We must have arrived at the perfect time because right after us we saw a group of at least 20 near us for a birthday and also the back area was reserved for a wedding! Our server was very friendly and responsive to our needs. She took our drink (water) and appetizer (hush puppies) orders right away and gave us ample time to decide on our entrees. I went for the Key West fish tacos with tilapia and hard shells. The real excitement was the side of 1/2 pound crab legs. I'm not crazy about hush puppies but these were really good. A little over-fried (I like things "extra crispy") and soft and warm in the middle. The crab legs came out almost instantly after the hush puppies since they came from the raw bar. My friend and I dived into our sides. The crab legs were good - fresh, perfectly salted, and tasted great. It was really a nice option to add that on for only $7.99. My tacos were good but definitely not as amazing as the crab legs. I took the rest of my entree home. The sweet potato fries I ordered with my tacos were perfectly crisp, however I'm not a fan of cinnamon on my sweet potato fries. I like them savory, not sweet. I tried my friends' scallops entree. The scallops were delicious, the texture was buttery, and it was seasoned well. My only complaint was that there was too much butter/wine sauce. My friend had to pat each scallop on her napkin to get the excess off. Overally, Lucky Oyster was great. I'm glad we picked this place out. parking can be a little tight, but the atmosphere is fun and kitschy, it's not too loud, and the place is clean. The prices are pretty affordable for seafood, too. Definitely worth checking out.

My husband and I tried Lucky Oyster for the first time the other night. My food was decent, but nothing really special. I forget the name of the platter, but it consisted of fried fish, oysters, shrimp, scallops and a crab cake. My hubby's food was not good. He ordered the penne pasta with chicken and sausage. I tasted his pasta before he did and it was cold. He tasted it, agreed that it was cold, and we flagged down our server down to have it warmed up. Our server was very nice and had it warmed up pronto. She checked on us a few more times after that. No complaints about the service. My hubby never did enjoy the pasta though. He just said that it wasn't very good. We really liked the nautical atmosphere. Very beachy and fun. If we go back he'll definitely try a different dish.

This place was great, the food was tasty and came out pretty fast, it also had a separate spot that had live music the good part was you could not hear it though the entire restaurant, service was great our server Lauren was kept our drinks full and checked on us regularly without being annoying

  • Tamara B.

The atmosphere is nice and our server was fantastic. She crab soup was just like any other you will find around here. I got the lunch combo with broiled scallops and clam strips. The clam strips were the biggest I have ever seen. Tuna bites were super tasty and cooked to perfection. There were only 2 problems with the meal.... 1. You can't get a baked potato until 4 pm and 2. The key lime pie is horrible. As far as the key lime pie being a pie, it was just that and not bad tasting....The problem comes with it not tasting like key lime at all. Being from Florida, there should be a much heavier taste of key lime than just a slight undertone of it. Other than that I can't complain about the lunch at all. Otherwise very good.

My friend and I had our requisite seafood-while-vacationing-at-the-beach dinner here Saturday night. We were seated promptly and our waitress soon arrived to take our drink order. The place was very busy with a large-party birthday dinner as well as a wedding reception, but our service never faltered! We started with the hush puppies with whipped butter for an appetizer which came out pretty quick- and they were crunchy and very tasty! I ordered the scallops (broiled, and asked for no butter) and my friend ordered the fish tacos- and we both got the side of 1/2lb crab legs- a steal at 7.99! Bring your muscle and caveman crab-crackin' skills as the plastic crab cracker they provide does nothing to crack those suckers. The crab legs came as a 'second appetizer' that we happily enjoyed before our main entrees arrived. The crabs were fresh, hot, and oh so delicious! My scallops, though fresh, buttery-textured and cooked to perfection, they came in a gravy boat of what looked like old bay seasoned oil/scallop juice. It was a bit unappetizing but I enjoyed the scallops nonetheless. My friend enjoyed her fish tacos, especially the side of avocado ranch for dipping. The establishment was clean with tacky-but-cute beach decor. They have a lot of seafood dishes as well as non-seafood options to choose from to please any palate. Prices were great for seafood (especially compared to DC!). I would definitely eat here again when in Sandbridge!

I come here for two things. Oysters on a half shell and the generic Watermans Orange Crush when I cant make it to the waterfront. I also only come during the afternoons when nothing else is open. I think they are overpriced and the service is spotty. I have had a couple entrees and fried baskets and nothing was blowing my mind. Its just one of those, oh, okay, its there but not my first choice, type of places. The end.

Went here for a few drinks while watching a football game. Got a blue cocktail that was served in a mason jar and was just way yay you too sweet for me to drink so ended up drinking beer for the rest of the night. Order the fried shrimp and they were amazing! Definitely a local favorite.

Friday night happy hour around 4:00 was perfect! .60 wings and oysters were delicious!! The $2.59 basket of hush puppies a definite plus!! The Carrie's Tea has been a longtime cocktail favorite of mine and never disappoints. My fiancé, who rarely drinks, continued on a second 32 oz orange crush which is served in a ball mason jar. Tip: The bar is usually packed but ask for the happy hour card to take advantage of the deals when forced to sit in the dining room, which may be the only option with a large group.

  • Karen B.

I'd eaten here for lunch and the food was good but we recently went for dinner and were disappointed. They were packed and so the service was slow but that's understandable. However, the food was pretty expensive and was not that great. The shrimp and scallops were overdone and the bottom of my fish was burnt. We will not be going back. For that price, it needs to be cooked correctly.
